Gay Guide to Mobile
Marriage equality arrived in Alabama in 2015 with the Supreme Court's nationwide ruling, after the state was among the last to resist. Mobile, the historic Gulf Coast port and the birthplace of American Mardi Gras, keeps a warm, welcoming queer scene downtown.
The nightlife concentrates along the lower Dauphin Street entertainment district, where the multi-level nightclub B-Bob's, a Gulf Coast institution, anchors a cluster of LGBTQ+ bars with drag, karaoke, and patios. Prism United supports the area's queer youth, giving the community roots beyond the bars.
Mobile pairs its oak-lined streets, antebellum architecture, and Carnival traditions with a scene that celebrates Pride well beyond June.
Mobile Pride is the city's largest annual LGBTQ+ celebration, with parades and parties that carry the community's spirit across the year.
