About LGBTQ+ Tallahassee
Marriage equality reached Florida in 2015. Tallahassee, the state capital and a university town home to Florida State and Florida A&M, keeps a friendly, community-minded queer scene shaped by student energy and civic life.
There is no gayborhood; LGBTQ+ nightlife runs on a handful of long-standing venues, led by the gay-owned 926 Bar & Grill and the veteran Painted Lady, both downtown-adjacent spots with live music, drag, and mixed, all-ages crowds. The universities give the community a steady activist streak, with roots stretching back to a gay rights coalition formed in 1969.
