Gay Guide to Verona

Italy recognized same-sex civil unions in 2016 but still does not allow same-sex marriage. Verona, the romantic city of Romeo and Juliet in the Veneto, has a small but welcoming gay scene that belies its fame.

The main gay area sits in the historic center near Piazza Bra and the Roman Arena, where Lucla Café, the city's one dedicated gay bar, anchors daytime and evening life.

Beyond it, a few cruise clubs and saunas on the edges of town, along with bars hosting regular drag and cabaret nights, round out the scene.

Verona joins the Veneto's Pride season with an annual Pride parade each June.
