Spain opened marriage to same-sex couples in 2005, the third country in the world to do so, and acceptance runs deep across the country. Tarragona, the Roman port city on the Costa Daurada, offers a relaxed, sun-soaked base within easy reach of Spain's gay-beach capital.
The city's own scene is modest, built around a handful of gay-friendly bars and the gay-popular sands of Platja de la Pineda just down the coast. Its trump card is location: Sitges, Spain's most famous LGBTQ+ resort town, is a short train ride up the shore, putting more than twenty gay bars and clubs within an easy day trip.
