About LGBTQ+ Ibiza
Carrer de la Verge, signed as Carrer de la Mare de Déu, is a lane of a few hundred meters in Sa Penya, the old fishermen's quarter wedged between the harbor and the walls of Dalt Vila. It has been Ibiza's gay street since the 1970s, which puts its beginnings in the years when Spain's 1970 social danger law was still being used to prosecute gay men; the provisions on homosexuality were not repealed until 1979. Many of the bars are little more than cavelike rooms cut back into the hillside, and the street has never needed to be anything grander.
Carrer de la Mare de Déu carries most of it. JJ Bar, Dado, Lady D, Nini'Ibiza and Sunrise run along the lane with Angelo's for dinner, and the crowd moves up and down it all night rather than settling anywhere. Monalisa on Alfons XII, Las Libertinas and Heart Ibiza on Passeig Joan Carles I fill out the rest of town.

Daytime means the beach. Es Cavallet, down in the south of the island, is the nude beach with a gay stretch and its own beach bar, and it is worth the trip out. Closer in, Figueretas is the beach neighborhood within walking distance of town, where the pool bar at Hotel Cenit handles the afternoon.
The big nights belong to the superclubs. La Troya is the long-running gay party, Glitterbox runs its disco nights at Amnesia, Sundown Festival adds dates of its own, and Ibiza Pride is the community's own occasion in a calendar otherwise built around visitors.
Much of the island runs on a season of roughly May to October, and Carrer de la Verge is at its best in the middle of it. Come in winter and the old town is beautiful and very quiet, which makes for a good trip but not much of a night out.
