Gay Guide to Perth

Australia legalized same-sex marriage in 2017, and Western Australia decriminalized homosexuality in 1990. Perth, the isolated, sunny capital of the west, keeps a compact but spirited gay scene concentrated in one lively district.

That district is Northbridge, the cultural and nightlife quarter just north of the railway line, where most of the city's queer venues sit within an easy walk. Connections Nightclub, an icon that has thrown Pride parties since the 1970s, and The Court, one of the largest LGBTQ+ venues in the country, anchor a scene that comes alive at the weekend and during festival season.

Perth pairs long beaches, riverside parks, and a laid-back pace with a queer community that feels tight-knit given the city's remoteness.

PrideFEST runs each November, a month-long program that closes with one of Australia's biggest Pride parades through the streets of Northbridge.
