About LGBTQ+ Bali
Indonesia's new criminal code took effect on 2 January 2026, and it matters here. Article 411 makes sex outside marriage punishable by up to a year in prison and applies to foreigners as well as Indonesians; since Indonesia does not recognize same-sex marriage, the provision covers every same-sex couple by definition. The crucial qualifier is that it is a complaint-only offense: no prosecution can start unless a spouse, parent or adult child files a complaint, and it can be withdrawn before trial. Bali's tourism authority and the Ministry of Law have confirmed that accommodations are not required to check marital status and that officials may not conduct sweeps. The practical risk to a visiting couple is very low. The law is still worth knowing about.
Bali is also not the rest of Indonesia. Aceh province enforces Sharia law and has publicly caned men for same-sex acts. Bali is Hindu-majority, runs on tourism, and is comfortably the most relaxed part of the country, though discretion outside the tourist strip is still the sensible default.

Seminyak holds nearly all of it, and most of that sits on one street: Jalan Camplung Tanduk, which everyone still calls Dhyana Pura. Bali Joe, Mixwell, Stonewall, the Bali Beach Shack, Marley and Face Bar run along it, and the drag shows at the first two are the fixed points of the evening.
The daytime version is beach clubs and spas. Ku De Ta, Woobar and D'Office cover the former; Banana, XXL, M.A.N and Elegantz out in Kerobokan handle the latter. Grandma's Plus, The Colony and Impiana are the gay-friendly places to stay.
There is no Pride parade on Bali and no visible activism, which is the point rather than an omission. Gaya Dewata is the long-standing local organization, and Blue Season handles HIV services.
