Nijmegen, the oldest city in the Netherlands and a lively university town near the German border, keeps a small but warm gay scene in its center. Bar De Regenboog is the community hub, hosting events and drawing a mixed local crowd, with the dance café Marcus-Antonius nearby for a night out. The city has playfully branded its Pride the smallest in the country, built around a single party on a small ferry. The scene is intimate and student-driven rather than large. Its riverside setting and old center make it an easy, relaxed stop in the east of the country.
