Gay Guide to Leicester
England and Wales decriminalised sex between men in 1967. Leicester, one of Britain's most diverse cities, has a compact gay scene in the city centre, with most venues a short walk from the railway station.
Rainbow & Dove, in a 1930s corner building on Charles Street, is the city's historic LGBTQ+ bar, with cocktails, shows and drag brunches hosted by Fanny Burns. Dover Castle on Dover Street is a gay pub with late weekend hours, and Helsinki on Rutland Street is the main late-night club.
Splash on Bedford Street South is the city's only gay sauna, with 6,000 square feet over two floors. The Leicestershire LGBTQ+ Centre on Newarke Street runs counselling, support and social groups for the city and the county.
Leicester Pride takes place in early September, a free festival that moved from Victoria Park to Abbey Park and expected around 20,000 people in 2026.
