About LGBTQ+ Nottingham
England and Wales decriminalised sex between men in 1967, and in 2026 Nottingham began formally marking its LGBTQ+ quarter: streets around Hockley are now the Rainbow Quarter, with plaques planned at landmarks such as the Lord Roberts pub and the former site of the Mushroom Bookshop.
The New Foresters on St Ann's Street, serving the community since 1958, is the city's oldest gay pub, recently refreshed by new owners. The Lord Roberts, a gay-run Art Deco pub on Broad Street by the Broadway cinema, has a basement dance area, and the Hole in the Wall on North Sherwood Street has been gay-friendly since the 1980s.
