About LGBTQ+ Athens
On 15 February 2024 the Greek parliament voted 176 to 76 to legalize same-sex marriage, adoption included, making Greece the first majority-Orthodox country in the world to do it. The bill came from a center-right government and passed with votes from the left opposition, over the objections of the Church of Greece, which campaigned hard against it and sent robed priests to protest outside parliament. For a country where the Church carries real institutional weight, it was a larger break than the margin suggests.
Gazi is the district, built around the converted gasworks at Technopolis and served by its own metro stop. S-Cape, Noiz, Moe, Shamone, BIG and Garage sit within a few blocks, and the area works as general nightlife as much as gay nightlife, so the crowds mix. Del Sol and Rooster handle the daytime and early-evening end.

Neighboring Metaxourgeio has the quieter, artier overflow, with Samis Bar, and Sodade2, Magaze and Beaver spread across the center. The saunas, Alexander, Attraxx and 8Downtown, are scattered rather than clustered.
Athens Pride takes Syntagma Square in June and has grown into one of the larger Prides in southeastern Europe, with a markedly more political tone than the party-first events further west.
For the sea, the gay section of Glyfada beach is a straightforward tram ride down the Athens Riviera. Most visitors treat Athens as a stop on the way to Mykonos, which is a mistake worth avoiding: the scene here is larger, considerably cheaper, and open all year rather than for ten weeks of summer.
