Gay Guide to Springfield
Springfield, the capital of Illinois and best known as Abraham Lincoln's hometown, keeps a small but steady queer scene downtown rather than a dedicated gay district. Clique is the city's main gay bar, running nightly with drag shows and themed nights, alongside Fluid, a dance lounge with bingo, trivia, and karaoke nights. The Phoenix Center, Central Illinois' LGBTQ+ community organization, anchors local support and organizes Springfield PrideFest, also called Capital City Pride, each May: a parade down 5th Street into a festival at 5th and Capitol that closes six downtown blocks. It's a quiet stop, but a real one.
