About LGBTQ+ Louisville

Kentucky was one of the states whose marriage bans fell in 2015, when the Supreme Court's ruling brought marriage equality to the entire country. Louisville, the state's largest and most progressive city, has a warm, close-knit gay scene with a genuine gayborhood feel.

That scene centers on The Highlands, the lively stretch along Bardstown Road just east of downtown, where LGBTQ+-owned bars, restaurants, and shops cluster within easy walking distance. Longtime anchors like Big Bar and Chill Bar draw an all-ages, all-types crowd, giving the district the mix of big-city energy and small-town friendliness locals are proud of.
