About LGBTQ+ San Salvador

El Salvador is one of the more hostile countries in Latin America for LGBTQ+ people, with no legal recognition of same-sex relationships and little anti-discrimination protection. Within that context, its capital, San Salvador, holds welcoming pockets and a small but real scene, and discretion is advised outside them.

Queer life concentrates in the upscale San Benito neighborhood, an artsy district of galleries, cafes, and boutiques with a creative, gay-friendly feel, and in the adjacent Zona Rosa nightlife strip.
