About LGBTQ+ Guatemala City

In Guatemala, same-sex relationships are legal but unrecognized, with no marriage and no anti-discrimination protections, and society remains conservative. Guatemala City, the capital, has a small, fairly discreet gay scene, mostly tucked into its safer nightlife districts.

The upscale Zona Viva (Zona 10), with its restaurants, hotels, and clubs, is the main hub, and one of the safer areas to go out at night.

The nightlife is led by clubs like G Bistro and its sister venues, with drag and reggaeton nights, plus a long-running bar in the historic center and a couple of saunas.

Visitors are advised to stick to tourist-friendly zones, keep a low profile outside queer spaces, and stay mindful of the city's crime.
