About LGBTQ+ Riga
Latvia decriminalized homosexuality in 1992 and, in 2024, introduced legal recognition for same-sex partnerships, a hard-won step in one of the more socially conservative corners of the European Union. Riga, the grand Baltic capital, keeps a small, resilient, community-driven queer scene.
There is no gay village, but the leafy Art Nouveau District north of the Old Town is the most relaxed part of the city for LGBTQ+ visitors, and a handful of bars, a cruise bar, and a sauna make up an intimate nightlife that leans on tight-knit local energy rather than scale.
