About LGBTQ+ Warsaw
From 2019 more than a hundred Polish municipalities declared themselves free of what they called LGBT ideology. The European Commission made EU money conditional on dropping the declarations and they fell one by one, the last of them in 2025. That is the shape of Polish LGBTQ politics: pressure from outside, resistance from inside, and movement that arrives late. The Tusk government's civil partnership bill cleared parliament in 2026 and President Karol Nawrocki vetoed it that July; overriding him needs three-fifths of the lower house, which almost never happens. Poland still sits at or near the bottom of every European ranking of legal protection.
Warsaw is the exception to all of it. The scene is in Śródmieście, the central district, and it is a proper city scene: Toro Lounge, Ramona, BLOK, Instytut, Butero and Lodi Dodi cover the bars, with Glam, Metropolis, CodeRED and La Pose running the club nights and four saunas operating within the center.

Plac Zbawiciela is worth walking past. A large rainbow installation stood on the square from 2012, was set on fire repeatedly by nationalists, was rebuilt each time, and was finally dismantled in 2015.
