About LGBTQ+ Prague
Czechoslovakia decriminalized homosexuality in 1962, and in 2006 the Czech Republic introduced registered partnership, the first country in the former Eastern Bloc to do so. Then it stalled for the better part of two decades. An amendment in force from 1 January 2025 dropped the word registered, extended most of the rights of marriage, and finally permitted step-child adoption, while stopping deliberately short of marriage itself; lawyers counted more than a hundred differences still standing. In daily life Prague is considerably more relaxed than that history suggests, and the gap between the statute book and the street runs in the comfortable direction here.
Vinohrady is the gay district and it is residential rather than a strip: leafy streets of nineteenth-century apartment blocks with venues scattered through them. Termix draws the club crowd on Třebízského, with Club Stella, Klub 21, YoCafe, Saints on Polská, the Factory Club and Celebrity Café on Vinohradská. Nothing announces itself loudly, which is rather the point.

Nové Město and the old town hold the rest. Friends on Bartolomějská has been running for years and is the easiest first stop, with Q Cafe, Cafe Bar Flirt, Piano Bar, IP Club, U Rudolfa and the cruisier Alcatraz nearby. Sauna Babylonia sits in the old town, with Bonbon and David further out. Up&Down covers Žižkov, and Patra out in Vršovice on Krymská is the artier, younger end of things.
Prague Pride fills a week each August and is among the largest in central and eastern Europe, which carries weight in a region where several neighboring capitals have gone the other way. Prague Rainbow Spring runs a smaller edition earlier in the year.
Prague is cheap by western European standards, compact, and served by trams that run all night. The one caution is the obvious one in any heavily touristed old town: a few venues in the center price accordingly.
