Gay Guide to Recife
Brazil legalized same-sex marriage in 2013 and criminalized homophobia and transphobia in 2019. Recife, a warm coastal capital in Brazil's northeast known for its beaches, music, and Carnival, has a lively and welcoming LGBTQ+ scene.
Most of the bars and clubs are in Boa Vista, in the center. Clube Metrópole on Rua das Ninfas has been the main LGBT+ club since 2002, with two dance floors, and Bar do Céu on the same street is known for its karaoke nights.
Nearby on Avenida Manoel Borba, Conchittas, Pop House Bar and The Bears Recife Pub share one short stretch, the last of them a bear pub open on Friday and Saturday nights.
The seafront district of Boa Viagem is the beach side of the city and home to the Blue Thermas sauna. Recife's Pride parade, the Parada da Diversidade de Pernambuco, fills Boa Viagem each September.
