About LGBTQ+ Fortaleza
Brazil legalized same-sex marriage in 2013 and criminalized homophobia and transphobia in 2019. Fortaleza, a sunny beach metropolis on Brazil's northeast coast, has a lively scene that runs from the sand to the clubs.
Most of the nightlife sits around Praia de Iracema and the Dragão do Mar cultural centre. Amsterdam C. Bar on Rua José Avelino has a dance floor and a dark room, Kosmika opened in 2022 in the old Órbita Bar building, and Haus is the intimate club that brings in name performers. Further inland, Astrologic in José Bonifácio and The Lights in Benfica run themed nights and karaoke.

By day the scene moves to the beach. Barraca do Joca is the gay beach bar on the sand at Meireles, and the long Praia do Futuro is popular with LGBTQ+ locals and visitors.
Fortaleza's Parada pela Diversidade Sexual sets off along Avenida Beira Mar on a Sunday afternoon at the end of June, and reached its 25th edition in 2026.
