Gay Guide to Puebla
Same-sex marriage has been legal across Mexico since 2022, and the state of Puebla recognized it in 2020. Puebla, a grand colonial city between Mexico City and the Gulf coast, pairs baroque churches and a celebrated kitchen with a bigger gay scene than most visitors expect.
In the Centro Histórico, BoyBerry, from the team behind the old La Cigarra, sits two blocks from the Zócalo, and La Mariposa on 4 Sur and Secret Coffee and Beer on 9 Oriente do drag, comedy and karaoke. The clubs cluster just north in Xanenetla, where Garotos and Pandora run drag, DJs and go-go nights on Boulevard 5 de Mayo, and DUA on Avenida Juárez in La Paz takes the bigger dance floor.
San Andrés Cholula, the university town beneath the great pyramid just west of the city, adds Zuntra Pop Club for a younger crowd. The men's bathhouses and cruising clubs are unusually numerous, from Adán and Baños Las Termas to Hardcore, which runs one club above Garotos and another in Cholula.
Puebla Pride marches on a Saturday in June from Parque Juárez on Boulevard 5 de Mayo to the Zócalo, and reached its 25th edition in 2026. The city has also marked a local day against homophobia every May since 2017.
