Gay Guide to Morelia
Same-sex marriage is legal throughout Mexico, and Michoacán recognized it in 2016. Morelia, the pink-stone colonial capital of Michoacán and a UNESCO World Heritage city, offers a more relaxed, unhurried LGBTQ+ scene than Mexico City or Guadalajara, and has drawn a growing community of queer expats.
The gay nightlife spreads through the historic Centro, with a range of bars, clubs, and cantinas, several featuring drag and live Latin music late into the night.
A network of LGBTQ+-owned cafes, bars, and guesthouses, along with lesbian and community spaces, supports an increasingly visible local scene.
The city's Pride march gathers at the grand Plaza de Armas beside the cathedral, part of a growing calendar of LGBTQ+ events.
