About LGBTQ+ Kaohsiung
Taiwan made history in 2019 as the first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage, and that milestone reverberates well beyond Taipei. Kaohsiung, the country's sun-washed southern port city, backs up the capital with a smaller but genuinely lively scene.
The scene is spread around the city centre rather than gathered in one district. Brickyard on Zhongshan 2nd Road has been the city's most gay-friendly bar since 2009 and runs the weekly Rainbow Thursday party, with King Sauna a few doors along the same road. On Nanhua Road in Sanmin district, the Hi-Bar club sits above the hi-MAN bathhouse. As across Taiwan, the atmosphere is open and relaxed, the product of one of Asia's most progressive legal climates and a vibrant civil society.

Kaohsiung pairs its waterfront redevelopment, night markets, and laid-back southern warmth with a community that shares in Taiwan's landmark rights.
Kaohsiung Pride has marched each autumn since 2010. Its 2025 edition, the 16th, moved to Fengshan district for the first time and drew around 10,000 people.
