Gay Guide to Cagliari
Italy recognized same-sex civil unions in 2016 but not same-sex marriage. Cagliari, the sun-baked capital of Sardinia, pairs a walkable historic core with long Mediterranean beaches and a lively little gay scene.
The Marina district, in the atmospheric old town near the port, holds most of the gay bars and cafes, long-time community meeting points among its narrow streets.
Just outside the center, the vast Poetto Beach is the local gay beach, with a well-known gay beach bar along its sands.
Cagliari hosts the island's Sardinia Pride each June, the biggest LGBTQ+ event on Sardinia.
