About LGBTQ+ Boise

Marriage equality came to Idaho in 2014. Boise, the surprisingly progressive capital tucked against the foothills, keeps a small but spirited queer scene concentrated in its walkable downtown.

There is no gayborhood; the nightlife gathers Downtown, where the Balcony Club and the city's dedicated gay nightclub anchor a tight-knit scene alongside indie, gay-friendly music bars. The community is close, open-minded, and used to punching above its weight in a rural, conservative state.

Boise pairs its river greenbelt, outdoor culture, and easy access to the mountains with a queer community that is proud and increasingly visible.

Boise Pride has grown steadily into a free outdoor festival at Julia Davis Park each September, with a parade and regional performers drawing crowds from across the Mountain West.

Boise's primary gay bar and nightclub, The Balcony Club is a multi-level venue in the downtown 8th Street area with a dancefloor, rooftop deck, and regular drag performances and themed nights.

Boise's LGBTQ+ community centre, offering programs, support, and a gathering space for the queer community.
