About LGBTQ+ Salt Lake City
A federal judge struck down Utah's ban on same-sex marriage in December 2013, and marriages became permanent in October 2014. A few months later, in 2015, the state passed a law protecting LGBTQ+ people from discrimination in housing and employment, a compromise worked out with the support of the LDS Church.
There is no gay district, but most bars sit on the west side of downtown. The Sun Trapp, open since 1973, is Utah's oldest gay bar, with a dance floor and a patio. Milk+, on Harvey Milk Boulevard, is one of the city's main gay clubs, Try-Angles, further along the same street, has been the cheap-drafts late-night bar since 2002, and Why Kiki on 100 South pairs a tiki bar and drag runway with a silent disco in the basement.

Metro Music Hall hosts regular queer nights, and Under the Umbrella, a queer bookstore on 200 South, runs community events. The Utah Pride Center on Main Street offers support and advocacy, and Transgender Education Advocates of Utah works statewide.
