Gay Guide to Veracruz
Same-sex marriage is legal across Mexico, and the state of Veracruz recognized it in 2022. The port city of Veracruz, a warm, music-filled hub on the Gulf coast, has a long-running gay scene, if a lower-profile one than Puerto Vallarta or Mexico City.
Two of its bars have been open since 1994. La Condesa, the nightclub on Esteban Morales in the Zona Centro, is known for its shows, and Yesterday on Aquiles Serdán is the friendly neighborhood bar.
Madonna Queer Club on 20 de Noviembre, in the space that was once La Jotería, has DJs, drag and go-go dancers. La Monroe on Avenida Cuauhtémoc does drag shows, and Bugambilia on Avenida Primero de Mayo puts on drag, vogue and queer shows. Vapor Jarocho on Azueta is the men's sauna.
Veracruz holds its Pride march each June.
