About LGBTQ+ Saint-Étienne

France decriminalized same-sex relations in 1791 and legalized marriage equality in 2013. Saint-Étienne, a working-class city in the Loire valley, is gay-friendly but keeps one of the quieter scenes among French cities its size, with a strong associative life rather than a big nightlife circuit.

Nightlife centers on a few venues in the city center, led by Le Before, long the main openly LGBT bar, with a newer bar and a sauna adding to the mix.
