About LGBTQ+ Rijeka

Croatia introduced same-sex life partnerships in 2014 and expanded adoption rights in 2022. Rijeka, the country's gritty, characterful main port and a former European Capital of Culture, is quietly emerging as one of the Adriatic's more queer-friendly cities, even without a commercial gay district.

Rather than dedicated gay bars, central and waterfront venues host LGBTQ+ club nights, drag shows, and themed events, usually promoted through social media.

LGBTIQ+ Druga Rijeka, opened in 2014, anchors local organizing as a hub for events and support, still rare across much of the Balkans.

Most central bars and restaurants are used to international guests and treat same-sex couples no differently.
