Gay Guide to Rennes
France decriminalized same-sex relations in 1791 and legalized marriage equality in 2013. Rennes, the youthful university capital of Brittany, has a visible, welcoming LGBTQ+ scene that punches above its size.
The Sainte-Anne quarter is the community's favorite, with gay-friendly bars and clubs clustered around the square and along Rue de Saint-Malo, an easy walk for a student-heavy crowd.
The scene mixes a dedicated gay club, a long-running LGBT bar with drag and DJ nights, and a couple of saunas, busiest late in the week.
Rennes holds an annual Pride march each early summer, the high point of a year-round queer calendar.
