About LGBTQ+ Angers

France decriminalized same-sex relations in 1791 and legalized marriage equality in 2013. Angers, a historic city in the Loire Valley, has a modest LGBTQ+ scene, with only a handful of dedicated venues, but a well-organized community life.

Dedicated gay bars are few, but the city's central bars and its lively student and cultural life make for an easygoing, welcoming atmosphere.

Much of the community centers on Quazar, the LGBTI+ center for Angers and the Maine-et-Loire, which since 1999 has anchored local advocacy and events.
