Gay Guide to Mannheim
Germany repealed the last of Paragraph 175 in 1994 and opened marriage to same-sex couples in 2017. Mannheim, at the heart of the Rhein-Neckar region with Heidelberg and Ludwigshafen close by, draws a crowd from well beyond the city.
Café Klatsch on Hebelstraße, open since 1990, is the city's oldest gay café-bar, known for friendly staff and low prices, and jail's on Angelstraße is the men's club, with a 300-square-metre darkroom area and two dance floors with guest DJs.
The QZM, Mannheim's queer community centre in the G7 block of the city's grid-plan centre, is a meeting space with events and support through the week.
Monnem Pride, the city's CSD in July, marches from the Augustaanlage through the centre to the Alter Meßplatz, followed by a street festival there and on the Neckarwiese.
