About LGBTQ+ Lille

France decriminalized same-sex relations in 1791 and legalized marriage equality in 2013. Lille, the lively student and cultural capital of France's north, near the Belgian border, has a small but spirited gay scene woven through its historic center.

Gay nightlife clusters in Vieux-Lille, the cobbled old town, and spreads to the République district and especially Wazemmes, a diverse, bohemian neighborhood known for inclusive bars and queer cultural programming.

Beyond the dedicated venues, much of Vieux-Lille and the center is openly LGBTQ+ friendly, and the Centre LGBTQI+ de Lille offers year-round resources and community events.
