About LGBTQ+ Koh Samui
Thailand became the first country in Southeast Asia to legalize same-sex marriage when its equal marriage law took effect in January 2025, cementing the kingdom's reputation as one of Asia's most welcoming destinations. Koh Samui, the palm-fringed island in the Gulf of Thailand, offers a relaxed, resort-style slice of that openness.
The gay scene is low-key and easygoing, concentrated in the Chaweng Beach area where a couple of friendly bars and mixed clubs gather, plus the island's dedicated gay resort with its men-only pool parties. It is a mellow counterpoint to the bigger scenes of Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket, better suited to beach days than late nights.

Koh Samui pairs white-sand beaches, coconut groves, and warm turquoise water with the easy acceptance that has long drawn LGBTQ+ travelers to Thailand.
There is no major Pride here; the draw is the island itself, now set against a landmark shift in Thai law.
A modern LGBT-friendly bar in Chaweng with reasonably priced drinks, open from 5pm.
