Gay Guide to Kansas City
Same-sex marriage came to Missouri in 2015 with the Supreme Court's nationwide ruling. Kansas City, famous for barbecue, jazz, and fountains, has a friendly and growing gay scene spread across a few of its liveliest districts.
The main hub is Westport, one of the city's oldest bar districts, with a visible queer presence, while the Crossroads Arts District downtown has become the beating heart of the scene, packed with gay-friendly bars, galleries, and restaurants. Midtown neighborhoods like Valentine fly the rainbow flag too, giving the city several distinct pockets rather than one village.

Pride KC takes over on the second weekend of June with a parade and festival that draws crowds from both sides of the Missouri-Kansas state line.
