Homosexuality is legal in Peru, though the country offers no legal recognition of same-sex relationships and Andean society stays traditional. Cusco, the ancient Inca capital and gateway to Machu Picchu, draws travelers for its extraordinary heritage rather than its nightlife, and its small queer scene has thinned since the pandemic.
There are no dedicated gay bars operating in the city now, but most cafes and restaurants around the Plaza de Armas are relaxed and welcoming.
The biggest queer moment comes with Pride season in late June, which overlaps with the Inca sun festival Inti Raymi and fills the city with visitors and pop-up parties.
For a bigger scene, travelers tend to save their nights out for coastal Lima.
