Ecuador legalized same-sex marriage in 2019, and Guayaquil, the country's largest city and its steamy Pacific port, backs up the capital's scene with a lively one of its own. Its Pride march has grown into one of the biggest annual gatherings in the city.
The nightlife gathers along the Kennedy Norte corridor, where gay bars pull a mixed crowd on weekend nights, while the colorful hillside of Cerro Santa Ana, a bohemian quarter of artists near the riverfront, offers a consistently welcoming, creative atmosphere. The scene is smaller than Quito's but warm and growing.
