Ecuador legalized same-sex marriage in 2019, and Guayaquil, the country's largest city and its steamy Pacific port, backs up the capital's scene with a lively one of its own. Its Pride march is held each year.
The nightlife gathers along the Kennedy Norte corridor, where gay bars pull a mixed crowd on weekend nights, while the colorful hillside of Cerro Santa Ana, a bohemian quarter of artists near the riverfront, offers a consistently welcoming, creative atmosphere. The scene is smaller than Quito's but warm and growing.
