About LGBTQ+ Belo Horizonte

Brazil legalized same-sex marriage in 2013 and criminalized homophobia and transphobia in 2019. Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais and often called Brazil's "capital of bars," has a warm, integrated LGBTQ+ scene where queer and straight crowds mix easily across its nightlife.

The upscale Savassi neighborhood is the community's main hub, packed with gay bars, clubs, art galleries, and open-air parties, though queer nightlife also spreads to Centro, Santo Antônio, and Barro Preto.
