Marriage equality reached Alaska in 2014. Anchorage, the state's largest city framed by mountains and inlet, keeps a small, spirited queer community that comes together against a big, wild backdrop.
There is no gayborhood; the nightlife runs on a handful of well-loved venues, led by the drag-and-cabaret institution Mad Myrna's and the neighborhood Raven Bar, with a few gay-friendly lounges rounding things out. For a remote northern city, the community is close-knit and surprisingly visible.

Anchorage PrideFest takes over each June, with Alaska's biggest Pride parade winding around the Delaney Park Strip and a festival of well over a hundred vendors, part of a full week of events under the midnight sun.
