Gay Guide to Strasbourg
France decriminalized same-sex relations in 1791 and legalized marriage equality in 2013. Strasbourg, the Franco-German city on the Rhine and a seat of the European Parliament, has a small but busy gay scene with a distinctly European, rights-focused character.
Most of the LGBTQ+ nightlife concentrates around Rue du Jeu des Enfants, where welcoming bars sit among the half-timbered houses of the old town, giving the district a look unlike any other French gay quarter.
The scene is compact but active, with a handful of gay bars and clubs plus saunas, all easily walkable within the centre.
The annual Fierté Strasbourg each summer centers on Place de la République and winds through the UNESCO-listed Grande Île, often with speeches on EU LGBTQ+ rights given the city's European institutions.
