Gay Guide to Split

Croatia introduced same-sex life partnerships in 2014 and expanded adoption rights in 2022. Split, the Dalmatian coast's largest city, built around the Roman walls of Diocletian's Palace, has a small but growing scene and a generally relaxed attitude, though discretion is still wise late at night.

X Club, which opened in 2023, is the city's first official gay club, running Friday and Saturday nights.

Most other gay-friendly venues, including the well-known Ghetto bar, cluster around Hrvojeva Street a few minutes from the seafront Riva promenade.

Split Pride, first held in 2011, marches each June alongside Zagreb's as one of Croatia's two big Pride events.
