San Diego's gay life centers on Hillcrest, a walkable gayborhood along University Avenue between 4th and 6th, packed with more than a dozen queer bars and restaurants. Rich's is the main dance club, Urban MO's the patio-and-drag anchor, and The Brass Rail one of California's oldest gay bars. San Diego Pride takes over in mid-July with a parade from the Hillcrest Pride Flag and a festival in Balboa Park, one of the largest single-day events in the region.
