Gay Guide to Metz

France legalized same-sex marriage in 2013, and Metz, the graceful golden-stone capital of Lorraine near the German and Luxembourg borders, formally declared itself gay-friendly in 2017 by adopting an LGBT-friendly charter. The scene is small but the city's stance is warmly welcoming.

At its heart is La Palette, the city-center community bar that doubles as an exhibition and gig space and is the clearest LGBTQ+ venue in town, alongside a club night and a gay sauna.

Couleurs Gaies, the LGBTQI+ center for northern Lorraine, anchors community life and helped drive the city's gay-friendly turn.

Metz Pride has marched each year since 2007, drawing crowds from across the border region.
