Gay Guide to Malmö
Sweden was among the first countries to recognize same-sex partnerships, in 1995, and opened full marriage in 2009. Malmö, the country's diverse third city just across the bridge from Copenhagen, is known as one of Sweden's most open and welcoming places for LGBTQ+ life.
The main gay area is Möllevången, the multicultural district in the center packed with gay-owned and gay-friendly bars, clubs, and restaurants. The scene is small but proudly inclusive, anchored by the city's queer bar and a men's fetish club, and it opens onto Malmö's canals, parks, and nearby beaches.
Compact and easy to pair with a Copenhagen trip via the Öresund bridge, Malmö carries a relaxed, progressive feel.
Malmö Pride is the largest LGBTQIA+ celebration in Sweden, filling the city each summer with a parade and a broad program of talks, concerts, and performances.
