Gay Guide to Bari
Italy recognized same-sex civil unions in 2016 but does not yet allow same-sex marriage. Bari, the lively Adriatic capital of Puglia, has a small scene that comes most alive in summer, when southern Italy's beach season and warm nights fill its bars.
In the atmospheric Bari Vecchia old town and along the seafront, spots like La Ciclatera, with its terrace over the Adriatic, anchor a scene of aperitivo bars and roving gay nights.
Monthly parties and traveling club nights carry much of the nightlife, drawing a young crowd from across Puglia.
A growing calendar of Pride events in recent years has steadily made queer life in Bari more visible.
