About LGBTQ+ Hiroshima
Japan has no national same-sex marriage, but momentum is building: since Tokyo's Shibuya district pioneered the idea in 2015, more than two hundred municipalities now issue same-sex partnership certificates, and courts have repeatedly ruled the marriage ban unconstitutional. Hiroshima, known worldwide for its message of peace, is socially easygoing, though its gay scene is modest.
The city has only a handful of dedicated LGBTQ+ bars, small and personal spots where a friendly welcome matters more than scale, alongside a broader nightlife that is relaxed and unbothered. Visitors will find warmth rather than a big-city circuit.
