Gay Guide to Gothenburg
Sweden decriminalised sex between men in 1944 and opened marriage to same-sex couples in 2009. Gothenburg, the country's second city, keeps a small, central scene with a big Pride week of its own.
Gretas on Drottninggatan is the city's oldest gay club, with two dance floors of disco and pop through the decades, and Bee kök & bar on Kungstorget, a queer bar and kitchen, marked its 15th year in 2026. Haket, an LGBTQ-friendly pub in the Långgatorna bar district, is a relaxed neighbourhood alternative.
Regnbågshuset on Baldersgatan is a free LGBTQI community house run by the city, a drop-in space for meeting people, and RFSL Göteborg, the local branch of Sweden's national LGBTQI rights organisation, runs support groups from Skeppsbron.
West Pride, held each June since 2007, is a week of art, culture and community events across the city, with a Pride area in Bältespännarparken and the parade on the final Saturday.
