Gay Guide to Belfast
Northern Ireland was the last part of the UK and Ireland to legalize same-sex marriage, in 2020, the hard-won result of decades of local campaigning. Belfast, its capital, has emerged from that long fight with a compact, spirited gay scene right in the center.
The nightlife clusters in a small Gay Quarter on the edge of the Cathedral Quarter, most of it around Union Street just north of the center. The Soviet-themed Kremlin, Northern Ireland's biggest gay club, anchors it alongside the industrial-chic Union Street Bar and a queer-collective drag scene, with the Belfast LGBT Centre nearby. It is friendly, walkable, and easy to fold into a wider city visit.
